Candle Making

Spring Scents & Wild Wicks: Candle Making is a fun, interactive, hands-on workshop designed to guide you through the art and science of crafting your own soy wax candle. In this gentle and creative class, participants will learn the basics of candle making as they:

Pour their own wax

Create a custom fragrance blend

Design a personalized candle label (optional)

Take home their finished candle

This workshop blends creativity, relaxation, and a touch of meditation. Together, we’ll slow down, connect with intention, and enjoy a peaceful experience inspired by nature.

No experience is needed — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to create something beautiful.

All participants must be 15 years of age or older.

This class will be led by Silvia, owner of MadreTierra Creations. Silvia is a creative spirit passionate about making pure, clean products that bring joy to others. With several years of candle-making experience, she turns her craft into a delightful and inspiring experience for everyone.

This class is expected to last two hours.

CANDLE MAKING TICKET

Ages: 15+

Slow down, relax, and discover the joy of drawing flowers in this beginner-friendly botanical drawing class. We’ll start with simple flower doodles designed to help everyone unwind and train the brain to recognize familiar shapes found in nature. From there, you’ll learn how to draw flowers using easy, step-by-step instructions that make botanical drawing approachable and fun—no prior experience required.

Along the way, the instructor will demonstrate basic shading and coloring techniques as we bring each flower to life. You’ll also receive resources for finding additional botanical drawing inspiration, plus creative ideas for using your finished artwork.

By the end of the class, you’ll leave with four completed flower drawings, step-out guides for drawing more flowers, and a curated botanical drawing book and media list to continue practicing at home.

This class is led by local artist and educator Shirl Hawes, founder of Playful Patterns. A retired educator and certified Zentangle instructor, Shirl loves observing and drawing flowers and wildlife, visiting botanical gardens wherever she travels, and finding creative joy in nature — especially at Clark Gardens.

BOTANICAL DRAWLING TICKET 

Insect Walk

Come and join us on an exciting insect walk through the lush garden! Explore the fascinating world of tiny creatures as we observe their intricate patterns and behaviors up close. Our knowledgeable guide, Addison Singleton, will lead the way, pointing out various species of insects and sharing interesting facts about their role in the ecosystem. This immersive experience is perfect for nature enthusiasts of all ages who are keen to learn more about the incredible diversity of insect life around us. Get ready to be amazed by the beauty and complexity of these often-overlooked creatures as we embark on this educational and fun-filled adventure together.

This adventure is estimated to last 1 hour.

Addison Singleton, who is leading the walk, has a Master of Science in Wildlife and Natural Resource Sciences and is working on her PhD in Animal and Natural Resource Sciences. Addison is currently the instructor for General Entomology at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX, and formerly taught Pollinator Ecology and Conservation. Her primary research focuses on plant-pollinator interactions in the context of anthropogenic disturbances, but she is also investigating plant-caterpillar relationships under drought and various other research projects looking at the presence of microplastics in arthropods, using novel techniques to sample for bumble bees in Texas, predicting bumble bee habitats in Texas, and floral reward changes under drought. Addison finds nothing more fulfilling than exploring the different species with whom we share the planet with, especially "the little things that run the world!"
